Citizenship wizard

Service Description

The process of applying for Australian citizenship varies depending on your eligibility. Based on your answers to a series of questions, the Citizenship Wizard will give you information about what to do and how to apply for Australian citizenship.

If the Wizard determines that you may be eligible to apply for citizenship based on your answers, you will be provided with links to information about making an application.

If the Wizard does not provide the information you need to:

  • visit the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website for detailed information on applying for Australian Citizenship.
  • call the Citizenship Information Line on 131 880 between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm Monday to Friday to discuss your personal circumstances or to get forms and further information.

Callers requiring language assistance can call the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) on 131 450.

Callers who have a hearing, speech or communication impairment can make contact through the National Relay Service (NRS).

Text phone (TTY) or modem callers should contact the NRS on 133 677.

Callers using Speech to Speech Relay (SSR) can contact the National Relay Service (NRS) on 1300 555 727.

If you are already an Australian citizen you do not need to use the Citizenship Wizard. Find out about getting proof of your Australian citizenship.

Who can use this service?

If you are a migrant or permanent resident you may be able to apply for Citizenship.

What is needed to use this service?

You will need to have available information about your current status and relevant arrival and/or departure dates into and out of Australia.
