The $220 million Securing our Fishing Future package was announced in November 2005 and is designed to deliver profitable and sustainable Commonwealth fisheries for the future. This is the most significant financial contribution to the Australian fishing industry ever made by the Australian Government.

Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA)

The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) is the Australian Government statutory authority responsible for the efficient management of Australian Government fishery resources on behalf of the Australian community and key stakeholders. AFMA manages fisheries within the 200 nautical mile Australian fishing zone (AFZ) and, in some cases, by agreement with the Australian States, to the low water mark. In doing so, AFMA provides management, advisory, compliance and licensing services and implements appropriate fisheries management arrangements.
