Parliamentary publications

The following is a list of key resources available from the Parliament of Australia. In addition, each parliamentary department produces its own publications which are accessible from the Parliament of Australia website.

Bills

A bill is a proposal for a law or a change to an existing law. A bill becomes law (an Act) when agreed to in identical form by both houses of Parliament and assented to by the Governor-General.

Hansard

Committee reports

Parliamentary committees conduct inquiries into specified matters which includes taking submissions, hearing witnesses, sifting evidence, discussing matters in detail and formulating reasoned conclusions.

Parliamentary papers

Of all the documents presented to Parliament each year, only documents of a substantial nature are included in the Parliamentary Papers series (PPS).

Lists of documents by calendar year, 2002-2014 are included in the Parliamentary Papers series (PPS). Note: some of these parliamentary papers are not available online; please contact the publisher or publishing agency if you are unable to locate a parliamentary paper.
