Department of Defence site promoting army history and protecting army heritage. Includes overviews of the various battles in which the Australian Army has been involved in its more than 100 year history and a database of images for viewing online.
Australia's War 1939-1945
This Department of Veterans' Affairs website provides teachers and students with access to imaginative and relevant information about significant World War II events, including the defence of Australia, Australia's war in the Pacific and Australian armed forces in other theatres. The site also incorporates a timeline of Australia's involvement in World War II. Information will be added to this site during 2004 - 2005.

The Australian War Memorial commemorates the sacrifice of Australian men and women who have served in war, through its ceremonial areas, extensive exhibitions and research facilities.
Australian War Memorial (London)
The Australian War Memorial in Hyde Park, London, commemorates the service men and women who served in WW1 and WW2 by listing the names of the towns in which they were born. Embossed from these 23,844 town names are 47 of the many battles in which they fought for Australia.
Australians at War
The Australians at War site was designed to complement the Australians at War TV series, and dedicated to those Australians who served their nation over the past one hundred years. Through animated documentaries, video, audio and activities users can re-live some of the greatest events in our history, as seen through the eyes of the men and women who were there.

Australians on the Western Front 1914-1918
This Department of Veterans' Affairs website provides an Australian journey across the First World War battlefields of France and Belgium. Australians fought on the Western Front in France and Belgium, including Fromelles, the Somme, Bullecourt, Messines, Passcshendaele, Dernancourt and Villers-Bretonneux.
Defence
The National Archives' holdings on defence date largely from 1901 but include some colonial records, such as those on the Boer War. Though their collection of defence-related records is vast, it does not include all defence records created by the Australian Government - the Australian War Memorial holds most of the operational records of war.

Nominal Roll of Australian Veterans of the Korean War
The Nominal Roll contains the service details of some 17000 individuals who served with Australia's defence forces in Korea, or in the waters adjacent to Korea, during the conflict and after the ceasefire, between 27 June 1950 to 19 April 1956. A certificate of service is available for every service record.
Nominal Roll of Vietnam Veterans
The Nominal Roll of Vietnam Veterans honours and commemorates the men and women who served in the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force in Vietnam, or in the waters adjacent to Vietnam, during the conflict between 23 May 1962 and 29 April 1975.

Preliminary Gulf War Nominal Roll
The Preliminary Gulf War Nominal Roll, prepared by the Department of Veterans' Affairs in Canberra, lists Australian Defence Force personnel involved in that conflict. It includes all personnel involved in the hostilities and associated operations in the Persian Gulf from August 1990 to September 1991.
Visit Gallipoli
The Visit Gallipoli website gives visitors to the peninsula and those surfing the internet at home an opportunity to learn more about the Gallipoli campaign, visiting Gallipoli today, and the Anzac Commemorative Site, as well as research and educational resources for individuals, teachers and students. In particular, the website now contains three tours, the Anzac Walk, Turkish Monuments and Memorials and a new Gallipoli Tour. Each tour offers a printed guide, historical and contemporary images, and an audio commentary available in both English and Turkish, able to be downloaded as an MP3 file.
World War 1 service records online
Records of men and women who served with the Australian army in World War I are preserved in the National Archives. As a gift to the nation, these records are all available online.
World War 2 Nominal Roll
Contains information from the service records of some one million individuals who served during World War Two. Search for service record details by specifying name, service number, honours, place (of birth, of enlistment, or residential locality at enlistment). A certificate of service can be printed for every service record.
