About

The australia.gov.au website is your connection with government in Australia. It links to information and services on around 800 Australian Government websites as well as selected state and territory resources. Australia.gov.au also searches over three million government web pages.

Australia.gov.au is a gateway to information but is not a publishing tool itself. Most material indexed by this site is created and stored externally to the site and is, therefore, the responsibility of the authoring department or agency.

If you are looking for government publications, Australia.gov.au does not directly sell or otherwise provide them to the public but aims to help users find publications and/or information on how to obtain the publication on the website of the publishing agency. Australian Government agencies are responsible for the production and distribution of the publications that they create.

The Department of Finance and Deregulation is responsible for the development and ongoing operation of this site.

We welcome feedback on our site and encourage you to complete our 60 Second Survey.

Governance Policy

The following criteria are the basis for selecting links to be included on this site.

  • The content must be authentic. Australia.gov.au will primarily link to government content or websites known to be sponsored by the Australian Government. Every effort is made to ensure the links are as current and as complete as possible, however due to the consistent process of change on government websites there will inevitably be a small amount of out of date or missing content from the index at any point of time.
  • The content should be up-to-date and accurate. Links will be made in good faith with the expectation that the content is appropriately maintained by the author agency and is timely and accurate. However, no guarantees (including of accuracy) are given.

Please note that there are some exceptions.

  • Not all sites indexed by australia.gov.au have a 'gov.au' suffix. Examples of exceptions include csiro.au and abc.net.au. Generally, activities funded by the Australian Government on an on-going basis may be considered for inclusion and notification of a new site can be made from Website Feedback form.
  • Privately sponsored sites, for example those maintained by political parties for politicians, are not included. However, Parliamentarians' personal pages, maintained by the Australian Parliament House web site, aph.gov.au, are fully indexed by the australia.gov.au search engine. All online material of Ministers that is contained on official .gov.au ministerial websites is also included in the australia.gov.au search index.

Australian Government agencies can inform Australia.gov.au of new sites or pages for inclusion in the Australia.gov.au indexes using the Website Feedback form.
